Checking in

I hope everyone is getting a handle on the shares.  As a way to help me help you, what sorts of things are people needing?  Are you flooded with greens?  Are you struggling with all the produce when you arrive home?  Are things going bad faster than you can eat them?  Is anything stumping you with recipe ideas?

Chime in!  If I can’t help, someone in the community can.  Hopefully this will help steer the information I’m giving you.

  1. Things are going well here! No problems getting through the greens in our medium share (green smoothies, folded into scrambled eggs, etc). The only issue we've had so far is that the sunchokes definitely did NOT agree with us, so when another batch came the second week, we had to find somebody to take them to try out.


  2. Second on the sunchokes – they didn't work for my wife or my daughter. I've found the greens have wilted on me a couple of times within two days. I've revived them with a 15 minute icewater soak, but maybe just need to learn to store them better.We love the Bok Choy, would and would love more parsnips, asparagus and radishes.


  3. Third on the sunchokes. I signed up for a food share because I want to eat healthier, but it seems most recipes that use sunchokes fry them as chips or use them in chowder/cream based soups. I did a root vegetable roast with them that turned out well, but only used up about a quarter of the sunchokes.I would also love more parsnips, radishes, and asparagus in the smaller shares.The spinach and microgreens have been delicious!


  4. Fourth on the sunchokes – just didn't agree with us. Wish they did because they are tasty… Love the microgreens and sprouts. Don't mind the small batches of interesting things. Thought the wheatgrass was lemongrass at first so I put it in stirfry. The kids said, "umm, mom, this doesn't have any lemon taste to it. It just tastes like grass!" Do you want the plastic microgreens containers back?


  5. OK, I'll "fifth" on the sunchokes, but I found after the first big batch that smaller helpings really didn't bother us nearly as much. And for healthy uses of them, they really do work well in soups, roasts, and mashes where you would otherwise use potatoes.
