Winter 2012 Week 7 (November 13th)

This week’s share (pics to follow later) includes:

onions
red & Yukon potatoes
cabbage
Winesap apples
sweetmeat squash
butternut squash
parsnips
turnips
beets
Crenshaw melon (let it ripen a bit more, until it turns yellow)

TOP: beet, onions, turnip, parsnip; MID: potatoes, cabbage, apples; BOT: Crenshaw melon, sweetmeat squash, butternut squash

Next week, for the holiday, David is hoping to give us plenty of veggies. It should include most of the following and hopefully a few other things (no ironclad promises, though — a snow storm could derail his good intentions):

tomatoes
cabbage
beets
turnips
parsnips
apples
squash
garlic
shallots
spinach
microgreens
brussel sprouts
frozen peaches and berries
casaba melon
… and weather allowing
carrots
radishes
arugula
bok choy
broccoli raab
mixed salad greens

I will round up some tasty recipes for stuff like the sprouts, squash, turnips, parsnips, and squashes that don’t normally make the rotation on people’s holiday menu. And if you won’t be around next week to get your share, please let me know now so that I can either inform David or have it delivered to a shelter.
