Spring 2014 Week 2 (April 8th)

Happy second week of spring. Sorry for the delay in posting – I had to double-check with David on a couple things. A note on microgreens — they’re a premium item that are a treat very few farms give to members. They’re not just sprouts, they’re baby plants grown in soil and harvested very young. We typically see basil, kale, radish, pea, or mustard. This week is a variety of lettuce called miner’s lettuce. The restaurants that David sells to would pay upwards of $8 for the amounts he gave us this week, which is both a sign of their presence in gourmet kitchens and how labor / investment intensive they are. Enjoy them on salads, as snacks, or as garnishes.
