Summer 2014 Week 11 (August 18th)

A couple new items this week. A quick question from David — Are the mixed greens and spinach making it to you in OK shape? He gambled since the weather has been just a little cooler and put them in your boxes.

New this week we have the poblano pepper (a hot-type pepper, but one of the weaker varieties). Nectarines — mine were much more ripe than you usually find them in the grocery, but not too soft. As always, pick through the fruit when you first get it home and cut up the bruised ones. Lemon cucumber, so called because it is round, yellow, and has a bright flavor. Okra, which is a nice addition to soups and stews, or stir-fried quickly. And the yellow Egyptian beet, which is new to the farm, it should have very pale, sweet, tasty flesh.
